Once a disciple asked Ramakrishna Paramhansa, “What is the role of the Master in disciple’s life? Paramhansa replied, pointing to a small boat in the river, “How long will that boat take to reach Calcutta?” Disciple replied, “May be four or five hours!”. Ramakrishna asked him again pointing to another huge motor-driven ship in the river, “How long will this take to reach Calcutta?” Disciple pondered for a while and said, “It will reach in half an hour, Master.” Master asked again, “What if that small boat is tied to the huge ship!? Disciple replied instantly, “Both of them will reach in half an hour !” Paramhansa explained further, “When the disciple is willing to be guided by the Master, and if he has conviction in His teachings, then with His grace, the disciple sails through life safely and surely ! Otherwise, the disciple has to go through a lot of penances !”

Satguru Sri. Siddharameshwar Maharaj, guru of my guru Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj would often give this analogy. A team of mason, carpenter, architect, engineer and contractor can successfully construct a temple. But in order to install a statue inside the sanctum, a Brahmin is called for. Similarly mother, father, relatives, friends are like this team of builders who are helpful in building & supporting the body. But in order to reinstall the divine within us, Guru is needed !

It is such a blessing for me that I am privileged to have two great Masters ! Osho, mere utterance of his name, and my pen has to retire, for, it is impossible to talk about him in such a small space ! After my initiation from Osho, my life was divided in two phases. Prior to meeting the Master and after meeting the Master! The prior portion became too irrelevant and the post initiation, a celebration. It is the magic of the Master and every word of him removed a huge baggage of misconceptions.

Nisargadatta Maharaj is one of the great Advaita masters who lived in Mumbai until 1981 and yet is much unknown to Indians. I was extremely fortunate to have stumbled upon his teachings. Listening to even few words of his wisdom was enough to annihilate.

Osho cleaned the slate and Nisargadatta Maharaj broke it thankfully.

I knew that He knows. I wasn’t aware of what I wanted. I didn’t tell Him either, and yet He delivered what was Worth delivering.I am ever grateful to both the masters,
Osho and Nisargadatta Maharaj for every breath of mine that is happening in stillness, Here & Now.

Jai Guru !
